What You Can Expect

Before Your Visit

Prior to your initial visit, you will be asked to provide us with your child’s medical records and any insurance information. For details on what is required, please visit our Patient Information page.

During Your Visit

You’ll typically begin with a visit to our clinic. Here, we will evaluate your child and work with you to design a customized treatment plan.

After Your Visit

Following the clinical evaluation and care plan development, you and your child will be introduced to their individualized team of specialists. Procedures or follow-up appointments will be booked with members from your child’s team according to their care plan.

Specialization at Shriners Children's Ohio

At Shriners Children's Ohio, we have a team of physicians and specialists who are highly-trained and experienced in pediatric burn care. This team is fully equipped to treat children with a variety of different burn injuries ranging from mild to severe. Other specialties you will find at our facility include cleft lip and palate care, complex wound and skin conditions, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Burn Care

Shriners Children’s Ohio is a leading facility for pediatric burn treatment.

Our specialists provide treatment for pediatric burns ranging from mild to severe. If your child has a mild burn injury, they can usually be treated with a visit to our outpatient clinic. If your child has sustained a more severe burn injury, our specialists will work with you to develop a care plan unique to their condition. This plan may include medical procedures, physical therapy and emotional support as part of their treatment and recovery.

Cleft Lip and Palate Care

Cleft lip and/or cleft palate occurs in approximately one out of every 700 births. This condition is a result of the tissue in your child's lip and/or mouth not fully forming during pregnancy.

If your child has a cleft lip and/or cleft palate, we offer specialized surgical repair which can help prevent problems associated with these conditions. Our surgeries can help regulate your child's breathing, speaking, and eating abilities, and enhance the reconstruction of their facial tissue for an improved cosmetic appearance.

Wound Care and Skin Disorders

Because of our expertise in burn care, the specialists at Shriners Children’s Ohio are also highly-qualified to provide care for children with a variety of wound and skin disorders. Members of our wound care team are all extensively trained and experienced in caring for children with major burns, soft tissue injuries and blistering skin conditions.

If your child has traumatic wounds or skin blistering due to severe skin infections, reactions, frostbite or other aggressive irritation, our specialists can assess their condition and develop an appropriate care plan for them. This medical assessment is important because wounds and skin conditions don't always heal on their own. Proper medical care will drastically increase the likelihood of a good outcome for your child.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Our leading plastic and reconstructive surgery team at Shriners Children's Ohio is one of the best in the region. Our team is highly qualified to perform a wide range of surgical procedures on scars, cleft lip and palate, burn-related injuries and other physical conditions affecting your child's health and well-being.

If your child requires plastic or reconstructive surgery for their condition, our specialists will work with you to develop a plan which focuses on providing optimal healing and the best possible outcome available.
