From Humble Beginnings to Global Impact
Our journey began in the early 20th century, driven by the Shriners fraternity’s desire to help children affected by the polio epidemic. On May 12, 1922, the cornerstone of our first hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, was laid, and, by September of that year, we welcomed our first patient, a little girl with clubfoot.
What started as a single hospital has flourished into a globally recognized healthcare system. With dozens of locations across North America, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, ambulatory care centers and outreach programs, we are able to bring hope and healing to more children than ever before.
Today, Shriners Children’s offers care for a variety of conditions, including orthopedic conditions, burn injuries, craniofacial conditions, spine care and spinal cord injuries and sports medicine. Our experienced, innovative and dedicated teams work together to provide comprehensive treatment to help each patient meet their goals and reach their full potential.
