Make a Tax-free Gift from Your IRA
If you are at least 70½ years old, you can make an impact at Shriners Children’s with a tax-free gift from your IRA. If you are required to take a minimum distribution, your gift may satisfy all or part of that requirement.
How It Works:
- You are age 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
- You make your gift directly from your IRA. (Consult your advisors if you also make tax-deductible contributions to your IRA.)
- You transfer the funds to one or more qualified charities, like Shriners Children’s.
Why Consider This Gift?
You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your tax deductions. If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can satisfy all or part of your obligation.
Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.
