Visiting Us

Visit Shriners Children's Portland

When visitors arrive, we're as happy to see them as the children are. Visitors can bring a smile to a patient's face and help them pass the time. But they can do more than that. Feeling supported by family and friends can also help enhance the healing process.

We ask that all guests, visitors and family members join us in creating a positive environment where hope and healing meet.

Your Safety Remains a Top Priority

Shriners Children's Portland is open and caring for patients with strict safety measures. We've resumed surgical care for pediatric patients and are accepting referrals for new patients and consultations.

To protect the health of patients, families and employees, our safety measures are as follows:

  • Screening patients, guests and employees for possible cold and flu-like symptoms, and potential exposure to respiratory illnesses.
  • Four healthy visitors who may be parents, guardians, support persons or siblings are allowed to accompany each patient in the inpatient unit or for outpatient visits, which includes outpatient clinic appointments, motion analysis center studies, POPS, rehabilitation visits, recreational therapy groups and clinical research camps. Two may be in the room or exam room at a time. An adult must accompany sibling minors.
  • Two healthy adults or support persons may visit in the pre- and post-operative and PACU units. Siblings who are 15 or older may visit in lieu of parents, guardians or support persons.
  • If a patient staying in the hospital has COVID-19, two healthy parents or guardians at a time may visit the child. They must stay in the patient’s room at all times unless they are leaving the hospital.
  • Patients are asked to not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to all appointments other than surgeries.
  • Parents who are unable to attend and follow the visitation guidelines will be offered a telehealth visit or can reschedule their appointment.

General Visiting Guidelines

To maintain a family-friendly, healing environment, we ask that all visitors respect the following guidelines:

Visitors may visit between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

  • Two parents/guardians/support persons may stay in the room with inpatients 24 hours a day.
  • An ID band is given to the family of each child who is staying overnight in our inpatient unit. This helps us identify those who are permitted to visit throughout the duration of their child's stay.
  • Guests must wear visitor badges at all times while inside the facility.
  • Latex balloons are not allowed in the building. Mylar balloons are welcome.
