Neil Reitman Pediatric Burn Institute at Shriners Children's Northern California

Children admitted for burn injuries of all severities and types to the Neil Reitman Pediatric Burn Institute at Shriners Children’s Northern California receive pioneering care from an internationally recognized team of specialists.

For more than 25 years, we have provided all aspects of burn care ─ from initial management, critical care and wound coverage ─ to rehabilitation, inpatient care and reconstruction. Children benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to treatment that maximizes cosmetic and functional outcomes, and includes rigorous therapy and emotional support. Family involvement also plays a vital role in a child’s recovery, so we prioritize family inclusion in all aspects of the patient care and recovery process. We are committed to providing the care and rehabilitation that injured children need to continue to lead active, productive lives.

The Neil Reitman Pediatric Burn Institute is named after a philanthropist who was committed to ensuring that all children receive the specialized care they need to recover to their fullest. Neil’s generous gift to the Shriners Children’s burn program will play a fundamental role in sustaining world-renowned, specialized pediatric burn care and research for years to come.

The burn program at Shriners Children’s Northern California is accredited by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a verified pediatric burn center and is the region’s most active and noted location for children’s burn care.

In addition to the clinical program, the Institute participates in groundbreaking research ranging from molecular and cell biology, to clinical research and prevention identification. It also offers expansive educational opportunities for medical students, residents and fellows.

Medical professionals at the Neil Reitman Pediatric Burn Institute advocate for continued advancements in burn care, ongoing support for burn survivors and improved burn prevention legislation. They are active members of the ABA, several having served in association leadership roles.
