Shriners Children’s Boston Provides Excellence in Burn Care

Meet Shriners Children's Boston patient, Ben, and his mother, Jessica. 16-year-old Ben has been a patient at Shriners Children’s Boston since he was almost 3 years old, when a fireworks accident during a summer holiday party in New Hampshire resulted in burn injuries covering 27% of his body. Ben was admitted to Shriners Children’s Boston the day of his accident and placed in a medically induced coma. Over 30 days, he had multiple skin graft surgeries and other procedures. Once he transitioned to outpatient care, Ben and his parents, Rob and Jessica, traveled to Shriners Children’s Boston from New Hampshire every week for appointments. As time went on and Ben continued to heal, those appointments became less frequent. He now returns every other year for evaluation. I saw a spark and I heard a scream and then there was a massive explosion. I'll never get the vision out of my head. He's had injuries all over, large and small and secondary burns and I knew it wasn't good.
