R. Scott Cowan, M.D., is a consulting orthopedic surgeon at Shriners Children's Springfield and Baystate Medical Center, and is affiliated with New England Orthopedic Surgeons and Dupuy Spine. Dr. Cowan received his undergraduate degree in biology from Brown University, a master’s degree in anatomy from the University of Maryland and earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Cowan completed an internship in general surgery from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and was a resident and chief resident in orthopaedic surgery at Boston University. He was also a spine surgery fellow at New England Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Cowan is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, American Medical Association, New England Spine Study Group and North American Spine Society.
