Claudiu Muresan, M.D., graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland in 2005 where he received a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship for his genetics research. He earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2010. He completed general surgery training at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2016, scoring in the 95th percentile on national exams and receiving the Viresh Patel Award for outstanding knowledge and commitment to patient care.
He went on to complete a plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Louisville in 2019, where he received the Clinical Excellence Award in 2018 and the Teaching/Mentoring Award in 2019. During this time, he developed a strong interest in hand surgery, leading him to pursue a fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery, completed in 2020. He remained on faculty there for several years prior to joining Hand Microsurgery and Reconstructive Orthopedics in Erie in 2023 and Shriners Children’s Erie in 2024.
Dr. Muresan is passionate about restoring function through surgery and considers it a privilege and honor to care for patients. He emphasizes evidence-based medicine in clinical decision-making and has authored over a dozen publications in plastic and hand surgery. A lifelong academic, he remains dedicated to teaching and mentoring future surgeons.
