Bryan Menapace, M.D., MBA, is a pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon at Shriners Children’s Portland. Dr. Menapace’s practice focuses on patients with spine conditions, such as scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis and congenital anomalies. Additionally, he cares for patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) along with all other types of skeletal dysplasias (SD), like achondroplasia. He treats OI and SD lower extremity deformity, offering correction with telescopic implants and other techniques. Furthermore, he bridges spine and dysplasia care and is among a small number of pediatric orthopedic surgeons trained to treat spinal conditions – such as stenosis or instability – in children with osteogenesis imperfecta and skeletal dysplasia.
Dr. Menapace grew up as a two-sport varsity athlete in west Michigan before attending college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, from which he graduated early, with distinction, with a bachelor's in biochemistry and minor in business. His medical school was at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, graduating with a doctorate in medicine, cum laude, with honors in research, and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. He additionally pursued a Master of Business Administration at Emory University Goizueta Business School and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
Dr. Menapace has had the opportunity to learn from and train under renowned pediatric orthopedic spine and OI/SD surgeons at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and A.I. DuPont Institute of Nemours in Wilmington, Delaware. Some of his mentors included Suken Shah, M.D., Stuart Mackenzie, M.D., Jeanne Franzone, M.D., Peter Gabos, M.D., Alvin Crawford, M.D., Peter Sturm, M.D. and Josh Murphy, M.D. He joined Shriners Children’s in 2024 and is a member of the bone health and skeletal dysplasia multidisciplinary teams. He is a candidate fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society and an active member of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He regularly attends the quarterly national OI Foundation surgeon’s case review and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. His research includes involvement in the Pediatric Spine Study Group and Shriners Spine Study Group, along with multiple active projects.
Outside of work, Dr. Menapace enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and traveling.
