A native of Lloyd Harbor, New York, Ronald Lewis, M.D., earned a Bachelor of Science in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he also completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery. He then underwent fellowship training in pediatric orthopedic and scoliosis surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Lewis also holds a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Lewis began his professional career in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Long Island Jewish Schneider Children’s Hospital (now Cohen Children’s Medical Center) in Queens, New York. He later served as Division Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at both Winthrop University Hospital and ProHEALTH Care Associates in Lake Success, New York. His career has also included clinical practice at Nemours Children’s Specialty Clinic in Pensacola, Florida, the establishment of a private practice in South Carolina, and work with a national musculoskeletal solutions program prior to joining Shriners Children’s Shreveport in 2024.
At Shriners Children’s Shreveport, Dr. Lewis has taken an active role in teaching and mentoring rotating orthopedic surgery residents from the LSU–Shreveport residency program. He has helped advance the facility’s telemedicine program and participates in comprehensive movement analysis. His advanced proficiency in dynamic ultrasound examinations in the outpatient setting allows for real-time, ultrasound-guided clinical decision-making in the management of hip dysplasia. His research interests include newborn hip ultrasound screening, improving postoperative compliance in scoliosis patients through telemedicine, and motion analysis to guide return-to-sport decisions following ACL and MPFL reconstruction.
Dr. Lewis enjoys mentoring Yale University students pursuing careers in medicine. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, baking New York-style bagels, learning new languages and traveling with his family.
