Patrick Powell, M.D., is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Shriners Children's Shreveport and Shriners Children's Texas, specializing in complex limb deformity and limb lengthening. Dr. Powell earned his medical degree and completed his residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He underwent an AO Trauma fellowship at Watauga Orthopedics and Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee, and received his subspecialty training in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Powell practiced pediatric orthopedic surgery at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas and the University of Mississippi Medical Center prior to obtaining an additional year-long fellowship in complex limb deformity and limb lengthening at the world-renowned International Center for Limb Lengthening in Baltimore, Maryland. He joined the medical team at Shriners Children's Shreveport as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon in 2019 and in Texas in 2022.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Powell is experienced in a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions, with extensive training in limb lengthening and limb reconstruction for upper and lower extremity deformities. He is skilled in advanced techniques using multiplanar external fixation and magnetic internal lengthening nails to treat complex limb deformity and limb lengthening. Dr. Powell also specializes in the treatment of pediatric patients with:

  • Complex limb deformity and deficiencies
  • Limb length discrepancies
  • Clubfoot (Ponseti method) and other foot deformities
  • Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia
  • Complications arising from pediatric fractures and musculoskeletal infection
  • Neuromuscular conditions
  • Bowing limbs/legs
  • Skeletal dysplasias (dwarfism)
  • Conditions of the hip
  • Scoliosis in infants, children and adolescents

Dr. Powell is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society. He has been invited to assist with training at the Baltimore Limb Deformity Course and has presented his publications at annual scientific meetings. He has been, and continues to be, involved with resident teaching and medical education in the communities he has served.

Dr. Powell is married and has one daughter. He enjoys church, travel, music and spending time with his family.
