Harlan P. Klein, M.D., joined Shriners Children's Hawaii as a pediatric anesthesiologist in 2005, and has served as chief of anesthesiology since 2007. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Hawaii and his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. His post graduate work included a general surgery internship at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii; an anesthesiology residency at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon; and a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Doernbecher Children's Hospital, also in Portland. Dr. Klein has also been on six foreign surgical missions to Nepal and the Philippines.
Dr. Klein greatly appreciates the child centered, family focused, compassionate environment, dedicated staff and mission-oriented culture at Shriners Children's. Dr. Klein knows that the children he takes care of rarely will remember him, but he feels privileged to have been able to participate in their care. Knowing that they have their whole lives ahead of them and that he was able to contribute to making a difference gives him great satisfaction. He looks forward to being able to take care of more children who would benefit from Shriners Children's care.
