John Frino, M.D., is interim chief of staff at Shriners Children’s Greenville. Named six times to the U.S. News and World Report list of Best Doctors in America, Dr. John Frino’s first interest as a medical student was to pursue a career as a pediatrician. However, after finding his surgical rotation “exciting and fulfilling,” his concentration instead turned to combining his two passions as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
The Clemson University graduate and one-time Wake Forest University School of Medicine class president served on the faculty at Wake Forest for almost two decades. “My greatest professional accomplishment is the education I was able to give to the residents that trained with me,” Dr. Frino said. “And I am most proud of the teaching awards given to me by the residents throughout my career.”
In late 2023, he joined the largest team of pediatric orthopedic surgeons in the Carolinas at Shriners Children’s Greenville. “I am glad to add value to an organization whose philosophy of treating children aligns with mine,” he said.
Dr. Frino is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and served as a journal reviewer of the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances. His professional memberships have included the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Frino and his wife, who is a physical therapist, have one daughter. As a family, they enjoy attending live music events, hiking and fly fishing.
