Edward Bittner, M.D., Ph.D., MS, is an anesthesiologist and critical care physician, providing clinical care at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Shriners Children’s Boston. He serves as program director for the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at MGH and is an associate professor of anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Bittner earned a Ph.D. in biostatistics from Tulane University, an M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and an MS in medical education from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowships in cardiac and critical care medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Bittner has broad academic and research interests that combine his background in biostatistics and medical education with his clinical expertise in anesthesiology and critical care. He has published over 260 original articles, reviews, chapters and editorials, and has edited 15 books in the areas of anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He currently serves on the editorial boards of multiple academic journals and holds multiple leadership roles within national and international societies.
Dr. Bittner is a member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Epidemiology.
