Muthiah R. Annamalai, D.O., is a pediatric intensivist with a commitment to helping families through some of their most challenging moments. Born in Atlanta and raised across more than 10 cities in three countries, Dr. Annamalai developed a global perspective that continues to influence his approach to patient care.
Dr. Annamalai earned an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a medical degree from Touro College of Medicine in New York. He completed a pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine in San Antonio, Texas, followed by a pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. As part of additional subspecialty training, Dr. Annamalai spent a year at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago pursuing pediatric neurocritical care fellowship training.
For Dr. Annamalai, the most rewarding aspect of treating children is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with families and witness a child’s growth and development over time. Serving the mission of Shriners Children’s is especially meaningful because it provides the opportunity to care for children from around the world while ensuring they receive the highest quality medical care available. Dr. Annamalai’s personal mission is simple: every child admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit deserves the very best care possible.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Annamalai enjoys spending time with his wife of four years, their 3-year-old son and the family dog. He enjoys running along the shoreline, taking road trips, exploring hole-in-the-wall local restaurants and cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies.
