An Ocean of Healing: Shriners Children's Boston Unveils "Under the Sea" Mural

[Card: Shriners Children's logo, Jamaal, Bahamian Artist & Diplomat]: Well, coming from the Bahamas, we think very colorful. And I wanted to find a way to impart what we experienced in the Bahamas around the world, which is why my murals are very happy.

[Card: It started with a blank slate ...]

Jamaal: I often think about how the viewer will experience this mural. I want them to look at it and I want them to smile.

[Card: Patients helped paint the various designs Jamaal drew.]

Jamaal: Working with Shriners has become a magnet that I just couldn't stay away. And it's a great experience for myself. And to see art become so therapeutic that they immerse themselves in it is such a special feeling for myself. It is reflective of what I have done as a child.

[Card: Jamaal then worked on the mural to refine the painting.]

Jamaal: It has really made me feel thankful and grateful of what art can do.

Jamaal: It starts from a mark. And then one dot can turn into a line, a line can turn into a swirl and a swirl can turn into a masterpiece. Everybody in themselves have a masterpiece.
