Michael:
I think golf is one of the most relaxing sports out there, and I think it's a sport that's designed so everybody can play it and enjoy it. My name is Michael. I was born with CLOVES. CLOVES causes fatty tissue to be deposited into the muscle, and with that fatty tissue comes the growth of the leg. And so, unfortunately, some people have both legs, but I had the left leg.
Shriners Children's has helped me with my mobility, given me prosthetics. Without those prosthetics, without my amputation, I probably would've never been able to play golf unassisted walking 18. Golf has always been in my family. My dad started golfing when he was younger. He golfed with his brothers. And so, growing up, I always was on the golf course with my dad and bringing my golf clubs with him. And then when I got older, I got my first set. And then ever since then it took off. I played high school and college golf.
Shriners Children's means a lot to me, and not just me, but my family, my wife, my wife's family. I feel like without Shriners Children's, I wouldn't have been able to do a lot of the things that I've done with my family. Thank you, Shriners Children's for the compassion and care that you've done for the community and children like me. I don't know if I could have done everything that I've done in life without you. You've given me a spark that's filled with love and compassion, and for that, I get to enjoy golf every single day.
