Anne Marie Dumaine, MD | Orthopedic Surgeon:
My name's Anne Marie Dumaine. I grew up in a small town in Northern Kentucky called California, Kentucky. And then through school made my way down to Lexington where I played soccer at Transylvania University. I did medical school at University of Cincinnati, moved a little further north to Cleveland at Case Western for my orthopedic residency and then ventured to Texas at Texas Scottish Rite for Children for my fellowship in pediatric orthopedics. And had rotated at Shriners as a medical student and loved the group here and always had it in my sights as the ideal place to end up back for for a job.
Starting out in college, I was always interested in math and science. I thought I was going to go more of the research route and be a medical researcher. And then I really quickly realized I'm too much of a people person for that and I was missing the relationships that patient care was able to provide. So I shifted focus a little bit and wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Taking care of kids is just the best. And pediatric orthopedics is amazing because we're still able to offer a lot of general care for our patients and take care of them from head to toe, whether it's a spine, whether it's trauma, whether it's neuromuscular. And so that aspect of general care really appealed to me and made me want to pursue a career in pediatric orthopedics.
So my practice, I take care of trauma patients, so a lot of fractures. I take care of babies with hip dysplasia and even older kids with hip dysplasia and then clubfoot. But really my main sub specialty focus here is in neuromuscular patients. The majority of those patients are patients with cerebral palsy. And so that is my main area of expertise here. And along with that, working in the gait lab here too.
I think we are tremendously blessed to be able to impact patients really early in their life and get them back to what they want to do and give them the highest level of function. And so I always hope that patients feel like I am truly invested in them and truly listening to them and helping them to accomplish their goals.
