When Bethany joined her family when she was 2, she couldn’t walk, crawl, talk or chew.
Born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, she needed specialized care her parents struggled to find – until they discovered Shriners Children’s.
Her mom, Melissa, said transitioning to the multidisciplinary cleft lip and palate team was “the best decision they ever made.”
Over the years, Bethany has had several surgeries and continues to receive annual care. But alongside surgeries and appointments, Bethany experienced something just as important – she grew in confidence.
The comprehensive care at Shriners Children’s has been life-changing for our family.
At Shriners Children’s, she met other children with experiences like hers – something her mom said meant the world after Bethany faced negative comments about her appearance growing up. Being surrounded by children who understood her journey helped her feel less alone.
Today, Bethany is a non-stop mover who lights up every room. She’s active in Scouts, skis, bowls, runs track, participates in theater and even takes ceramics classes. She has represented Shriners Children’s and proudly shares her story.
