One year without losing hope
Sergio is Discharged
When we talk about medical treatments, time is in between, since there are processes that last long, and without a doubt, a lot of patience is necessary.
Today we share with you a very special case of one of our patients, who along with his family went through very distressing moments last year. Sergio had an accident and fractured his femur, which did not heal and developed pseudoarthorsis, which is the lack of healing of the fracture. Sergio was born with a significant deformity and shortening of the left femur, and a malformation of the blood vessels in that limb.
His arrival at Shriners Hospital
Sergio arrived at the Hospital in September 2019 due to a femur pseudoarthrosis and an arterial condition from birth, which prevented him from correcting the fracture in his femur.
Cinthia, Sergio's mother, tells us how distressing it was to have her son in these conditions.
“Dr. Felipe Haces supported us at all times so that Sergio could be admitted here to the Hospital and receive medical care. I will be eternally grateful to all the medical staff, since no one gave my son any hope; however, this Hospital gave us our hope back.”
After more than 20 procedures, including surgeries and surgical washes, Sergio's health improved progressively until he was discharged on Friday, August 21, after almost a year of being hospitalized in several occasions.
What was the main challenge for Sergio?
“To have a lot of patience, because I have been hospitalized on multiple occasions for almost a year, and then put up with the pain and procedures that had to be performed; and as I said, a lot, a lot of patience,” Sergio explains.
“You are in very good hands here; I am very grateful to the hospital; I have received a very humane treatment from all the staff, from the nurses, doctors, orderlies; they were all very good to me. You should know that everything that has to be done is worth it, in the end you will get a good reward,” said Sergio.
Undoubtedly, a story of strength from a young man who was able to overcome a difficult situation and who never lost hope.
Sergio, we wish you to achieve all your dreams and that you always keep moving forward!
