Nurse Honored for Remarkable Service as 2020 DAISY Award Winner

Sadie Bach, a registered nurse (RN) in the intensive care unit at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, is the recipient of the 2020 DAISY Award®. The annual award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to make a positive difference for patients and their families.

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. It is the name of a foundation established by a family in memory of their son, Patrick Barnes, who died from an immune system disease. The DAISY Award recognizes the compassionate care Patrick received during his illness. More than 500 health care organizations are committed to honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award, which is presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives and supported by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program.

“Sadie is an incredible nurse, deeply committed to the patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, and is a natural problem-solver and fierce patient advocate who constantly evaluates what her critically ill patients need in order to heal,” said ICU Nurse Manager Robyn Bartlett. “I affectionately refer to Sadie as a ‘disruptor’ – she isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions and challenge the status quo in order to improve the delivery of care. As a result of this tenacity, her patients receive highly individualized, goal-oriented, evidenced-based care.”

Ms. Bach joined the hospital patient care team in February of 2016. Her co-worker Laura Dazey, RN, nominated her for the DAISY Award.

“We had a challenging patient stay with us in the ICU for a couple weeks,” wrote Ms. Dazey in her nomination of Ms. Bach. “Sadie displayed a level of kindness, patience and creativity that made me appreciate what an amazing nurse and human she is as she rallied interdisciplinary resources to help the child stay safe and provide the highest level of care possible.”

A small, socially distant reception was held to congratulate all nominees and the award recipient. All nurses at the Northern California Shriners Hospital play an integral role in providing excellent, compassionate patient care.

“The DAISY award is part of an international program to recognize the extraordinary and compassionate care provided by nursing,” said Director of Patient Care Services Kanoe Allen. “We are proud to partner with the DAISY organization to recognize our outstanding nurses who not only are clinically excellent, but deliver exceptional care and compassion with their patients and families.”

The list of registered nurses who were nominated for the 2020 DAISY Award includes: Amy Bollinger, Breanne Weatherman, Carolyn Wilson, Diana Spencer, Elvira Aguirre, Erica Macias, Juliana Gianan, Sadie Bach, Sierra Thomas and Vladimir Valin.

Congratulations, Sadie Bach, on being the Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California 2020 DAISY Award recipient.
