Isaac’s Confidence Shines

Isaac is diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI).

OI is a genetic bone disorder that is present at birth. It is more commonly known as brittle bone disease. A child born with OI may have soft bones that break easily or bones that are not formed normally.

When he was 3 months old, Isaac suffered his first fracture when he broke his ankle. He then had his second fracture when he was 11 months old. It was when his family took him to the UCLA Medical Center that they were referred to Shriners Children’s Southern California. Here, Isaac has been treated by pediatrician Manu S. Raam, M.D., FAAP, and has a care team with a comprehensive plan to help him through his patient journey.

Today Isaac enjoys his life just like any other kid. He enjoys watching sports, and his favorite teams are the Las Vegas Raiders and Chicago Bulls. In his spare time, Isaac also loves to build models.

This past summer, Isaac joined the Patient Ambassador Program and was able to represent Shriners Children’s Southern California at the annual big big truck show called Truckin’ for Kids in Irwindale. Not only did he get to see the many big rigs and their amazing modifications, he saw them go head-to-head in drag races! Isaac was also in charge of choosing the winning truck for the coolest looking rig in the lot. His smiles throughout the day were contagious, and the light in Isaac was shining when the trucks were revving their engines with demonstrations.

Shriners Children’s is able to give Isaac confidence and build his self-esteem to take on anything he wants in life. As soon as he walks through the doors of the facility, he can feel everyone's warm embrace. It makes what would seem like a scary experience into something a lot easier. With the amazing care and love that Isaac receives at Shriners Children’s, his light can shine brighter than ever.
