Briana: Discipline, Resilience and Love for Sports

Character, perseverance and discipline

Briana is a living example that all dreams can be fulfilled with effort and perseverance.

She has shown great strength from a very young age, because at the age of 2, she and her family were involved in a car accident near her hometown of Guadalajara.

After the accident, Briana suffered serious injuries to her left ankle, and there was also the need to amputate her right leg below the knee. After her parents looked for places that could support her, they contacted the hospital, and at the age of 4, she became a patient at the Shriners Hospital in Mexico City, where she has undergone multiple surgeries and prosthetic adjustments.

Throughout her recovery and medical treatment, Briana has always shown great self-confidence, a lot of self-assurance and a fierce desire to overcome all the challenges in her life.

Her character and determination led Briana on a path full of sports and personal accomplishments. Today, she is a 17-year-old high school student, a model and an accomplished Paralympic swimmer.

She has taken part in international swimming competitions, and received medals in Canada, Colombia, the United States and Mexico. Some of the categories in which she participates are the 100 meter butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and 50, 100 and 400 meter freestyle.

One of her latest achievements was within the Conade Paranationals held in Cancun, where Briana obtained seven gold medals in seven different categories. This is a very important step for Bri, because not only did she improve her times, but she has taken another step to achieve her dream of representing Mexico in the next Paralympic games to be held in Paris in 2024.
