Alejandro is a professional athlete in throw, shot put and discus

A Dream That Starts Unexpectedly

We usually say that certain things or moments were meant to happen, and that they bring great surprises. This is how fate surprised our patient Alejandro, who has been treated at Shriners Hospital for femoral hypoplasia for several years. Alejandro is a professional athlete in field athletics. He specializes in javelin throw, discus and shot put in the F57 category and belongs to the Mexican Federation of Wheelchair Sports representing the State of Mexico.

An Unexpected Finding

The way Alejandro started in this sport turns out to be unexpected, as he was found by a coach on his way home. “I did not expect it; I’ve always dedicated myself to my recovery, and I think the universe is interconnected, because the cerebral palsy coach found me walking near my home, and invited me to be part of the Texcoco Paralympic School Club, which is where I got started. The coach made me bench throw tryouts and that's how it all started.”

“I have exercised all my life, but I started doing it professionally two years ago.”

Alejandro told us that he has had the opportunity to participate in two National Paralympics in Colima 2018 and Colima 2019, representing the State of Mexico. It was in the 2018 competition where he got the Bronze Medal for shot put, and he was selected to be part of an Arizona tournament called “Desert Challenge Games 2019”, where he obtained a Silver Medal in javelin, discus and a Bronze Medal in shot put. There were about 100 countries participating in this competition in various areas, and Alejandro was able to obtain his international qualification. “There I qualified internationally, because I had my national classification. I only needed my international classification for competitions outside the country. This is how I obtained my F57 International certification,” Alejandro tells us. Thanks to this participation in Arizona, Alejandro had the opportunity to meet with great medalists in his area, participate and live with them. “I'm just starting out in this career and being able to live with great athletes like them was something very important to me," says Alejandro.

A Professional Dream

“I want to go beyond and reach the Parapan American and Paralympic Games and represent Mexico, also and raise the name of our country in international competitions,” Alejandro explains.

Alex's Message

“Always follow your dreams and have a mindset focused on achieving them; I’ve always played sports; it was always my goal to play sports, and now I'm almost in the big leagues. Do your best, because new doors are always opening to go ahead,” he concluded.
