Sacramento Police and Fire Bring 'Good Night Lights' to Patients

The Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento Fire Department teamed up to bring some holiday magic to patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California. On Tuesday night, fire trucks and police cars rolled in to the front parking circle and filled the night sky with their vehicle’s flashing and strobing lights. Young patients and families watched and waved back with flashlights of their own from the windows of hospital rooms above. The special night lit up the sky, but more importantly lifted up the spirits of young children at the Northern California Shriners Hospital.

“This gift from the Sacramento Police and Sacramento Fire Department is so special for our patients and their families,” said community relations liaison at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, Joseph Ramos. “We love to see their faces light up and wave back with their flashlights.”

The light show is part of a national Good Night Lights program that brings a holiday light show to children every week – children who wouldn’t be able to see holiday lights otherwise. Every December, a collective effort is made by local police and fire departments to illuminate the lives of children who are currently hospitalized. The Sacramento Police and Fire Departments will bring the Good Night Lights show to the hospital every Tuesday from now until Christmas.

The Sacramento Police and Sacramento Fire Departments also plan to donate some holiday gifts for patients on the last Tuesday of Good Night Lights on Dec. 22. The toys will be given to patients on Christmas morning.
