Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital Ranks in Top 25 Best Children's Hospitals

U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Six Shriners Hospitals for Children Locations

U.S. News & World Report has announced its 2020-2021 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings and the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital, in partnership with the University of Utah Health and Primary Children’s Hospital, ranked #24 in the nation in the orthopedics category. With a profound commitment to the community, the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital staff members have dedicated themselves to providing high-quality pediatric orthopaedic care to children in the Intermountain West since 1925.

“Our mission drives our important work – not the accolades – but it’s incredibly rewarding to be recognized,” said Kevin Martin, hospital administrator. “Year after year, our patients’ Press Ganey surveys tell us they have the best experience, staff feedback makes us a Top Workplace and U.S. News & World Report recognizes us as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation.”

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City has consistently ranked in the top 50 hospitals the past five years, making this the hospital’s sixth year in a row to count itself among the best of the best in pediatric orthopedics. This year’s #24 ranking marks an exciting leap from its #37 ranking last year.

Through a nationally conducted survey, U.S. News & World Report selects hospitals based on clinical data that includes measures such as patient safety, infection prevention and adequacy of nursing staffing. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report utilizes peer surveys from pediatric specialists to help determine the score for each hospital. To earn this prestigious recognition in a specialty category, hospitals must demonstrate exceptional care models and the ability to treat medically complex patients.

“This recognition means so much to me because my greatest joy is being able to serve our families, and they deserve the best,” said Kristen L. Carroll, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon and chief of staff. “I truly love my staff and my patients – I am so lucky to work in such an amazing place.”

The Salt Lake City hospital joins five other Shriners Hospitals for Children locations also recognized by U.S. News & World Report. This year’s six ranking hospitals is up from three ranking hospitals the past five years:

  • #6 - Shriners Hospitals for Children — St. Louis
  • #18 - Shriners Hospitals for Children — Erie
  • #24 - Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City
  • #33 - Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California
  • #40 - Shriners Hospitals for Children Medical Center — Lexington
