Mitchell Grasseschi, M.D., was born in Chicago and grew up in Wisconsin. He attended college and medical school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residencies at Northwestern University. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army as general medical officer at Fort Bragg Womack Army Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He completed pediatric plastic surgery training with Desmond Kernahan at Children's Memorial Hospital Chicago. He worked at a private general plastic surgery with emphasis on pediatric plastic surgery in Evanston, Illinois and now works exclusively at Shriners Children's. Dr. Grasseschi says he continues because pediatric plastic surgery is not work. His outcomes exceed the benchmarks and he says it is an honor and privilege to intervene in a child's life and give them a chance to live without the stigmas of unintelligible speech and concerns about appearance.
Dr. Grasseschi's hobbies include restoring his own home, restoring cars and motorcycles and nineteenth century banjos. His daughter is a critical care physician in Bonn, Germany. She lives there with her husband and four daughters, ages 5 to 15.
