April R. McCarty, MSN FNP, graduated from UTMB SON in Galveston in April 2011, and a few short months later started working as a primary nurse on the adult burn ICU at UTMB. In 2015, she transferred into the tub room on the adult burn unit, providing daily wound care to the adult burn patients. In 2016, she became a certified wound care nurse and continued working in the adult burn unit tub room. In May of 2019, she graduated from UTA with her masters of science in nursing, became certified as a family nurse practitioner and licensed as an advanced practice registered nurse. Later that same year in September of 2019, she moved from the tub room and started working at UTMB as a wound ostomy continence consult nurse. She became a certified ostomy and continence nurse in December 2019. In December 2020, she started working at Shriners Children's Texas as a nurse practitioner in the outpatient burn clinic. She loves providing care to our patients and looks forward to seeing the children every day.
