Dr. Amy Mrazek is an assistant professor of surgery within the department of surgery, division of trauma, acute care, and burn surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and an acute burn surgeon at Shriners Children’s Texas.  She grew up in South Texas and attended college at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, completing a dual major in chemistry and biomedical science. Dr. Mrazek relocated to Galveston to complete her post-graduate training at UTMB Health, which included medical school, general surgery residency, three-year research fellowship and Ph.D. in human pathophysiology and translational medicine. Her dissertation focused on the pre-clinical development of a naturally occurring compound, apigenin, in the treatment of recurrent acute pancreatitis. She began her surgical critical care fellowship training at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and completed it as well as acute care burn surgery training at UTMB and Shriners Children’s Texas in Galveston.

Dr. Mrazek is a member of the Association of Academic Surgeons, American Burn Association, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American College of Surgeons. Her clinical interests include acute care surgery, management of trauma, acute burns, and critically ill patients. Her research interests include pancreatitis, gastrointestinal oncology, sepsis, and coagulopathy. She appreciates the opportunity to teach and mentor students within the academic environment. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, dancing two-step to ballroom, and collecting antiques.
