Dr. Ludwik K. Branski, M.D., MMS, Shriners Children’s Texas:

My name is Ludwik Branski, and I'm a plastic and reconstructive surgeon working for Shriners Children's Texas, as well as the University of Texas Medical Branch. I came here 20 years ago and started as a research fellow and in various other functions, and have been here as a attending plastic surgeon for the last 13 years. My specialty is reconstructive surgery after severe burns and other dermatological diseases, such as hemangiomas or port-wine stains. We look at children who have had severe burns, who are now recovering from them and have a scar burden, such as hypertrophic scars, keloids, and we devise a treatment plan for these children, that takes into account the children's age, their scar burden, and any therapy or any surgery they would like to have, and then, we plan for these surgeries, taking into account, again, the age and the areas to be treated.

We are using several methods, we can use lasers, we can use surgery, we cut out scars, flap surgeries, scar and skin replacement with various bio-temporizing matrices, and the dermal substitutes, and we treat port-wine stains and other hemangiomas and other dermatological issues with separate laser surgeries.
