Since opening our first hospital in 1922, it has been our mission to provide innovative, high-quality comprehensive care, conduct research to advance medical care options, and provide educational opportunities for physicians and other healthcare professionals.

A History of Hope and Healing in Salt Lake City

The journey for Shriners Children’s Salt Lake City began on January 22, 1925, when Shriners International opened the doors of our first facility, a 20-bed unit at St. Mark’s Hospital, to provide specialty orthopedic care for children in the Intermountain West. Since then, we have grown and evolved, meeting the ever-changing needs of our community and the families we serve.

From the construction of our 40-bed hospital in 1951 – with President Harry S. Truman’s support – to the opening of our state-of-the-art facility in 1995, our history is a testament to unwavering commitment, innovation and compassion.

Along the way, our talented teams have pioneered advancements in orthopedic care, such as bone bridge surgery, Mehta casting and halo traction.

As we reflect on 100 years of providing care that transforms lives, we are reminded that this incredible journey has been made possible by you, our incredible supporters. Thank you for your passion and commitment to our mission.
