History of Shriners Children's Mexico

Established: March 10, 1945

Shriners Hospitals for Children Mexico was established in March of 1945 at Hospital Infantil de México, with a 10-bed ward. Since its establishment, thousands of patients have benefited from the medical and surgical treatments offered. The facility was founded thanks to the initiative of the Anezeh club, and in particular to one of its members, Mr. D'Acosta, who took the initiative to start this amazing project and help the children of Mexico

Shriners Hospitals for Children Mexico currently has more than 25,000 active patients.

Location Highlights

  • 1945: Facility opens within the Children's Hospital of Mexico.
  • 1949: A house is acquired south of the city that was used for the care of convalescent patients.
  • 1961: A second location is built in Mexico, on Arbol del Fuego and Suchil Streets, with 60 beds, two operating rooms, a department of physiotherapy, orthotics and related services.
  • 2006: The new Shriners Hospital for Children Mexico opens its facilities at Av. del Imán No. 257, with 80 beds, four operating rooms, a prosthesis and orthosis manufacturing workshop, in addition to departments of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other services.

Until now, the hospital has not only contributed to improving the quality of life of children in Mexico and Central America but has also contributed to the training of doctors through its subspecialty program in pediatric orthopedics.

This program has trained dozens of doctors in this specialty for almost 40 years. Many of the physicians who were initially residents are now part of our staff, some already with more than 30 years in service.

Currently, Children's Hospital de México seeks to extend its frontiers of care and reach other states of the country with The Most Amazing Care Anywhere. Such is the case with the future opening of a clinic in the city of Monterrey, where patients from the northeast of Mexico will receive treatment.
