Shriners Children's Greenville Sweeps Best of the Upstate Awards

Bill Munley, market administrator for Greenville, Lexington and Florida, accepted the awards on behalf of the Greenville team.

For the third consecutive year, Shriners Children’s Greenville has been voted Best Hospital in the 2023 Best of the Upstate Awards Community Choice Awards. The awards, sponsored by The Greenville News and held each July, are determined by community vote. The hospital also took home awards for Best Pediatric Clinic and Best Orthopedic Center.

“We’ve been honored with healthcare industry awards for our patient experience and safety standards this year, and of course those are incredibly important because they speak to the extraordinarily skilled care that we provide; but these awards are special because it’s voted on by the mom, dads, friends and neighbors of the young patients we serve,” said Trana Pittam, marketing and communications director, Shriners Children’s Greenville.

Celebrating “the best businesses and organizations in the area,” there are two phases to the highly-coveted annual awards. First, the business or organization must be in the top five nominees voted on by the community. Then, only the top three are promoted to a final round. Winners are announced at a gala attended by all finalists.

“You can look at statistical outcomes and know we provide pediatric orthopedic care that rivals all other top-tier facilities in the nation,” said Bill Munley, market administrator, Shriners Children’s. “But to be honored as Best of the Upstate, you have to have captured the hearts of your community too. You must be successful at some of the most difficult and important work that may not be captured by ‘statistics’ – and that is making your patients and their parents feel valued and secure. I am so proud to say our staff does that every single day.”

Shriners Children’s Greenville was nominated in every applicable category of voting. The hospital, which is home to the largest team of pediatric orthopedic surgeons in the Carolinas, and is the only freestanding children’s hospital in the state, was also a first-round contender for Best Place to Work.

The Best of the Upstate Awards are produced by Gannett Media, the publisher of not only The Greenville News and other local titles across the country, but also USA Today – the third most circulated newspaper in the United States.
