Shriners Children’s Greenville Child Life Practicum Program

Are you ready to take the next step toward a career in child life? Shriners Children’s Greenville offers a dynamic Child Life Practicum Program designed to provide pre-internship students with invaluable learning experiences. Through observation, patient interactions and engaging non-clinical assignments, participants will deepen their understanding of child development in a healthcare setting. Guided by a Certified Child Life Specialist, practicum students will apply their knowledge while supporting patients and families during their hospital journey.

This practicum is a pre-internship opportunity allowing students to grow and learn through observation, interactions and non-clinical learning assignments. Practicum students will apply their developmental knowledge through interactions with patients and families under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.

Semester Offering(s): Summer 2027, Winter/Spring 2028 
Affiliation: Open to both affiliated and unaffiliated students 

Practicum Requirements:

• Application Form: SACLP Common Child Life Practicum Application (General 4 — Southern Association of Child Life Professionals).
• Recommendation Forms: Two recommendation forms included within the SACLP application (pages 9-10).
  • Letters of Recommendation are not accepted.
• Professional Resume.
• Minimum of 100 volunteer hours (50 of those hours must be completed in a hospital).
• Academic Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
  • Required Courses: Play, Child Development and Introduction to Child Life.
    • At least one course must be taught by a Certified Child Life Specialist.
    • If courses are in progress for Summer 2027 or Winter/Spring 2028, please submit a Course in Progress form.
• If any applications are missing required information or include additional forms, they will not be accepted.

• Application Deadline: January 8 by 11:59 p.m. ET
• Interview Offer Date: January 25
• Interviews: February 1-February 12.
• Offer Notification: First offer day: February 17; second offer day: February 19.
• Acceptance Deadline: Must accept within 24 hours of receiving the offer.

Key Dates for Winer/Spring 2028 Practicum:

• Application Deadline: August 27 by 11:59 p.m. ET
• Interview Offer Date: September 13
• Interviews: September 20-October 1.
• Offer Notification: First offer day: October 6; second offer day: October 8.
• Acceptance Deadline: Must accept within 24 hours of receiving the offer.
