Maren Conrad Paints Fine Art Piece to Benefit Children

World-renowned muralist and fine artist Maren Conrad created a fine art piece that is being auctioned off as part of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California’s Gift of Care fundraiser. The 36 inch wide by 48 inch high piece is titled Spreading Miracles, and features gold and silver leafing on a canvas painted with oils and resin. The painting features a dandelion with its seeds flying in the wind. The dandelion is a universal symbol of wishing and hope – something the hospital provides to children and families every day.

“The seeds that fly toward the edge of the canvas represent what these kids are going to do for the rest of their lives,” said Maren. “They are here healing now, but where they will go next and what they will do to change the world is incredible. Shriners [Hospital] is about optimism and spreading love and hope, and giving kids a future.”

“This is my way of using my expression to contribute to helping children all over the world recover from horrible accidents and disease, and other health struggles, and help keep families together,” said Maren.

Maren’s connection to the hospital started a few years back when she came and held a workshop where she drew cartoons that portrayed patients as super heroes. She worked with a group of children in the burn unit who then had the chance to paint and color in the outlines she created. She met with patients, siblings and parents during her initial visit and was extremely moved by the experience.

“I remember being in complete awe that we have something that is such a treasure right here in Sacramento helping all these different families and their children recover and find a way forward,” said Maren.

For almost 100 years, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California has been providing more than just answers and hope. The hospital staff has been providing the true Gift of Care thanks to generous donors whose only motivation is ensuring that children receive the treatment they need. Proceeds from the fine art auction will directly benefit children and families, and will be used to provide specialty pediatric care to children regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
