Shriners Children’s Erie and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh collaborate to provide care for children requiring specialized surgical procedures.

At Shriners Children's Erie, we work closely with a talented team of pediatric orthopedists and other specialists from the UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh to coordinate care for patients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions and other specialized conditions that require surgery.

Surgeries are performed at our affiliate locations, including UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, UPMC Hamot or Shriners Children's Philadelphia. Physicians from our partner hospitals are essential to the Shriners Children's Erie team and see patients for appointments in our clinic before and after their procedures. Following surgery, patients are seen at Shriners Children's Erie for follow-up care with their physician and other providers necessary to support their recovery.

Recognized Leaders in Pediatric Orthopedic Care

With two teams that are highly experienced in pediatric orthopedics, we work together to coordinate care for patients who require specialized services from both of our teams in order to fulfill their care plans. This collaborative effort between Shriners Children's Erie and UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is ranked #13 in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for pediatric orthopedic care 2021-22.

Shifting Our Care Model to Support Patient Recovery

By coordinating surgical care through our partner hospitals, Shriners Children's Erie is able to concentrate our efforts on expanding our specialized care programs in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Our comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation programs include occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language pathology and Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS). The expansion of these specialized services has increased our capacity to support and promote recovery for our patients.
