Presentations and discussions will be facilitated by medical staff and occupational therapists at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California. Presenters include noted hand surgeon Michelle James, M.D., chief of orthopaedics, Claire Manske, M.D., pediatric orthopaedic hand surgeon, Katie Cantrill, MOT, OTR/L, CHT., and Pauline Ng, MOT, OTR/L, CHT.
Topics covered:
- Arthrogryposis etiology, early diagnosis and medical management in the first 2 years
- Elements of a comprehensive OT evaluation and considerations for treatment in infancy
- Surgery during childhood – surgical indications, surgical tech and therapy needs post-op
- Considerations during later childhood and adolescence
- Maximizing function with adaptive techniques and equipment
After completing this course, practitioners will be able to:
- Identify diagnostic characteristics of Arthrogryposis
- Outline criticalelements of an OT evaluation during infancy
- Explain indications for UE surgery for Arthrogryposis and recommended post-op therapy care
- Outline 3 reasons to use splints with Arthrogryposis
- Describe 3 adaptive techniques used to increase function with Arthrogryposis
