At Shriners Hospital in Sacramento, we are grateful to individuals from all walks of life who want to share their time and talents. Whether volunteering, attending a special event or coordinating a fundraiser, there are several ways to get involved. Here is how you can help:
Attend a Special Event
You are invited to support Shriners Hospital by participating in special events and fundraising activities. Volunteer needs and activities vary by event and include everything from hospital events to help with fundraisers. To learn about opportunities available, please visit our Events page and contact Volunteer Services at 916-453-2087.
Become a Volunteer
Individuals 18 years of age and older may apply to become a Hospital Volunteer. The Volunteer Services Department reviews all applications to match skills and availability with volunteer needs. Please visit our volunteer page to learn more. The Hospital volunteer experience begins with the application process. Apply online by clicking here.
The Sacramento Ballet, the California Highway Patrol Academy, the Cal Aggie Football Team and local Debutantes are just a few of the many groups which enrich the environment of care through volunteerism. If your group is interested in a patient entertainment activity, please call the Therapeutic Recreation & Child Life Department at 916-453-2232.
Participate in our Atrium Series
Amateur and professionals alike are invited to fill the hospital with music and song as part of the Atrium Series. School choirs, jazz bands, piano players and others are invited to perform in the hospital lobby throughout the year. The music floats through the atrium to positively impact all patients, families, staff and visitors. To schedule a performance, call Volunteer Services at 916-453-2087.
Make a donation
Every child who seeks care is welcomed into a pediatric medical center where every doctor’s visit, every surgery, every physical therapy session and every patient activity is provided regardless of the family’s ability to pay. It is a gift made possible by generous individuals from all walks of life who believe people can make a positive difference in the lives of others. Please visit our Ways to Give page to learn more or donate today.
Pet Therapy Program
There’s no bark about it. Dogs, cats, bunnies and other outgoing animals bring smiles to the faces of children daily through the hospital’s extensive pet visitation program. All candidates must complete a Pet Partners International workshop and evaluation conducted by the Shriners Hospital Pet Therapy Coordinator. Pet therapy volunteers must complete all individual hospital volunteer requirements. Please call 916-453-2087 or go online for an application.
Summer Youth Program
Summer volunteer placements are available to students 16 and 17 years old. Those interested in participating must submit a volunteer application and a 450-500 word essay. For more information, please visit our Summer Youth Program Academy page.
