Missing Thumb / Missing Fingers
Missing thumb / fingers is the most common hand disorder treated at Shriners Children’s. Typically only one hand is affected. Other symptoms may include webbed fingers or a short hand or forearm.

Clinodactyly is an abnormally bent or curved finger that may overlap with other fingers. Treatment varies and in most cases, the condition does not cause pain or interfere with other basic hand abilities.

Klippel-Feil Syndrome
Klippel-Feil syndrome occurs when bones in the neck abnormally fuse together before birth. Signs include a short neck, a low hairline at the back of the head or limited ability to turn the neck.

Velopharyngeal Dysfunction
In velopharyngeal dysfunction or VPD, an opening or issue with the soft palate allows air to escape in the nose, and speech problems. Shriners Children's treats this craniofacial condition surgically and with speech therapy.

Traumatic Wounds

When the skin is punctured by a bite or rubbed briskly on a rough surface, a traumatic wound can occur.

A port wine stain is a birthmark that looks like red wine was spilled on the skin. These birthmarks can be anywhere, but are often on the face, arms or legs. We use innovative laser treatments to reduce their appearance.
