Susan Caldecott-Johnson, M.D., is a neurodevelopmental pediatrician and a pediatric physiatrist. She received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1989 and completed residencies in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Cincinnati.  She is one of a handful of physicians quadruple board certified in pediatrics, neurodevelopmental disabilities, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and pediatric rehabilitation medicine.

She has developed inpatient rehabilitation programs, cerebral palsy programs, NICU follow-up programs and a congenital heart neurodevelopmental program. Prior to moving to Galveston in 2021, she was the division chief of child development & rehabilitation at the University of Illinois at Peoria. Throughout her career she has cared for children with a spectrum of neurodisabilities, including those with physical challenges, and those with challenges in cognition and communication.

Dr.Caldecott-Johnson began working at camps for children with special healthcare needs as a teenager and continues to be a camp physician for Camp C.A.M.P.  (Children’s’ Association for Maximum Potential) in Center Point, Texas, with a goal of making recreational activities accessible to all children.

Her goal is to identify child’s challenges and find a way around them to bring joy to that child’s life. She believes in providing comprehensive care to children with cerebral palsy, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, burns, neuromuscular disorders and motor delays.
