Dorothy Schulman, M.D., joined the faculty of the University of South Florida (USF) division of pediatric endocrinology which was previously based at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, in 1985. She served as division chief from 2005-2012, and as director of the pediatric endocrine fellowship training program from 2005 to 2019. She joined the USF Diabetes and Endocrinology Center faculty in Tampa in 2012 where she is a professor of pediatrics. Dr. Schulman has been a consulting physician at Shriners Children's Tampa since 1985.

Dr. Schulman is currently a member of the Genetics and Newborn Screening Advisory Council for the State of Florida, has served on the Governor's Diabetes Advisory Board, was a member of the sub-board of Pediatric Endocrinology for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and on the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. She has been a volunteer physician for the Florida Camp for Children and Youth with Diabetes at Bring a Friend Camp and Camp Winona for many years.

Her scholarly interests involve improving the care of children with a variety of endocrine disorders including diabetes, growth, puberty, adrenal, thyroid and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Her current major clinical research interest is in in closed-loop insulin pumps for treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Schulman chose pediatrics because she wanted her profession to be both rewarding and fun. She is particularly grateful for the long-term relationships with patients and families that characterize the subspecialty of pediatric endocrinology. She says that is is a privilege to watch children grow from newborns to young adults.
